Olivia Dunne and her LSU teammates honor dillon reidenauer with a heartfelt tribute

Recently, it was announced that LSU athlete Dillon Reidenauer passed away in a tragic car accident on campus. In response, Olivia Dunne and other LSU teammates have expressed their sorrow. At the same time, they mourn the loss of this young athlete and have each paid tribute in their own way.

Indeed, both LSU star gymnast Olivia Dunne and her teammates mourn this great loss for the Tigers. The 18-year-old pole vaulter died in a car accident around 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Olivia Dunne honors Dillon Reidenauer

To honor the athlete and elevate Dillon Reidenauer’s name, Olivia Dunne and her teammates wore black ribbons in their hair during the meet against George Washington. This event took place just a couple of days after the accident, specifically on Friday night.

In the accident, which happened near Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Reidenauer’s car was hit by a motorcycle. Both vehicles burst into flames, and the motorcycle’s driver also lost his life. This news was shocking for all of LSU. Thus, Olivia Dunne and her teammates wanted to show their affection with this gesture.

A heartfelt goodbye

It was Olivia Dunne herself who posted on social media a photo where she appears alongside her teammate Alyona Shchennikova. Both had the black silk ribbons in their hair. The Instagram stories were accompanied by a black heart to show the mourning and sadness that engulf them.

Additionally, Olivia Dunne also posted a black-and-white photo of Reidenauer. On the LSU Gymnastics Instagram account, other images of her were posted, as well as of the rest of her teammates under the title “Competing for Dillon tonight”.

Both Olivia Dunne and all the university athletes feel the loss of Reidenauer. They thanked her for her contribution through a statement on the school’s website: “Thank you for doing this. Dillon trained and competed with us from 2015-2022. She was an amazing student and the most beautiful, graceful gymnast we have ever trained. Seeing her grow into the gorgeous young lady she became, we believed she would wind up on the cover of a fashion magazine…while pole vaulting of course! She was a junior coach and mentored our pre-team students and beginner competitors until March 2024. We were so happy for her when she made it to LSU doing the sport she was made for. We are truly honored to have met, loved, and coached this beautiful soul.”

According to her coach’s words, Reidenauer was a model athlete and student. Additionally, he assured that they will do everything in their power to help all students and athletes, including Olivia Dunne, overcome the pain of this loss.
