Ahead of the new NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys are still searching for star players to strengthen their team. It appears they are considering the possibility of acquiring one of the Eagles’ top players—fresh off their Super Bowl victory.

Typically, this franchise has not been very active during the first round of NFL free agency. This is because Jerry Jones prefers to keep the team in the lower half of the league in terms of actual cash spending. However, he is now considering signing one of Philadelphia’s best players.

What surprise are the Cowboys planning?

According to Marrisa Myers of The Wright Way Network, the Dallas franchise is looking to acquire one of the Eagles’ best defenders. That player is Milton Williams, a rising 25-year-old star who could make a huge impact for the Cowboys.

Although the Eagles want to keep Williams on their roster, he is expected to seek a more lucrative contract after an outstanding 2024 season. His current projected contract value is around $12 million per year. If Philadelphia re-signs him, they could miss out on other valuable acquisitions for Jerry Jones’ franchise.

This could be the perfect opportunity for the Cowboys to snag one of their rival’s key players. However, Dallas does not have much salary cap space to work with, meaning they would need to restructure some contracts to make room. Williams would be a crucial addition to strengthening the interior of their defensive line, making his signing a realistic possibility.

If Williams enters the open market, he could land a deal worth between $15 million and $20 million per season. With Parsons’ contract extension on the horizon, the Cowboys may think twice before making such a big move in free agency.

Currently, the team has wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott, and linebacker Micah Parsons on the roster. These three players account for 54.3% of the team’s salary cap charges this year. As a result, they will need to renegotiate deals with Lamb and Prescott while also deciding whether to trade Prescott or not.
